Commercial HQ Match Report

       Commercial's "Champions League" campaign came to a shuddering holt in spectacular circumstances in a game that they looked to have in the palm of their hands. They opended the scoring a with a fine passing move. Captain Antony Jones played in his younger brother Chris Jones down the left and he curled in a pin-point cross for centre back Adi Dodsworth to sweep home at the far post. Paul Simon could have added to this lead but his chip hit the cross bar with just the keeper to beat.

       Commercial added to their lead early in the second half when full back Matt Varley went on a rampaging run down the right before sliding in Matty Simon, who crossed for Jono Harding to hook the ball home low into the left hand corner. Things got better for the home side as Cross Flatts were then reduced to 10 men shortly afterwards, as their centre forward was centre off for a two footed tackle. This was the que for self distruction. Cross Flatts quickly pulled a goal back after the sending off to make the game a contest again. Commercial could have wrapped the game up when Nick Sutcliffe met Jono Harding right wing cross, but his side foot effort rolled agonisingly wide with the goal wide open. Cross Flatts then punished Commercial for over confindence at playing against 10 men, scoring two goals in the final 3 minutes, although the last goal didnt looked to have crossed the line. Video evidence was needed!

       I great cup run for Commercial but they fell short when they should have been cruising into the quater finals. Now back to the league!
